Alilya Resort and Spa -Sigiriya
After climbing Sigiri rock we were tired and wanted to relax. And next we reached “Aliya resort and spa” which is located 13km away from Colombo.
“Aliya” means “The elephant” in English. We
could see elephant carvings and paintings all around the resort premises. It is a four-star hotel and has a large
swimming pool which is facing towards the Rock Sigiriya.
Rock
Sigiriya is visible to the main lobby of the resort from far away through the
mist. It gives a spectacular view of
Sigiriya rock to the pool and hotel premises, such a wonderful attractive eye
catching view cannot be described with words.
In the middle of the hotel compound there was
a clay house which is built with straw roof called “Nagula”, the paddy museum,
where you can see all the equipment of cultivation which were used in ancient
period such as clay pots, stone motor and pestle, sickles and buffalo carts.
There was a typical Sri Lankan village type kitchen model too. Therefore, it was a good experience for me to explore our ancient traditional kitchenette as it is very rare nowadays to see this kind of villages.
When considering their cuisine, food is very
delicious and served with different varieties of dishes that consist of local
and international dishes with mouthwatering taste. If someone wants to taste
Sri Lankan traditional food, they can get a good experience with their buffets.
They have three main buffets for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have a
Chinese restaurant which is called “Makara”. This restaurant beautifully
illuminates with red lights. Most of the Chinese guests dine there without
fail.
Apart from above facilities there were gym, badminton court, night club and
karaoke as well.
We
enjoyed well with this eco-friendly atmosphere. It is a good place for
relaxation, physically as well as mentally.
This
environment soothes mind. This
eco-friendly resort is full of native huge trees which cool down the atmosphere
with breeze. They have planned this eco themed resort nicely. It is far away
from hustle cities
If
we had more time we would have definitely visited Minneriya national park,
Pollonnaruwa archeological ruins, Dambulla rock cave and temple too. So I left
Aliya resort and Sigiri village with the determination of returning back to
explore more things in the future which I missed this time. After the Covid pandemic, I am waiting
impatiently to visit there once again …….
